Use Google Pagerank and Alexa for Better Deals on Cars

By Jim Carlton

Although I surf the net almost daily, sifting through search results to find the most appropriate sites to answer my query can be a harrowing experience. My hobby is to trade cars and I find that several online classifieds catering to the buying and selling of cars do show up on the first page of Google but are often quite outdated and not frequently visited. That was until a friend of mine told me about Google Pagerank and Alexa.

The first thing I did was get the latest version of Firefox, an absolutely fantastic browser. The speed improved, I could conveniently view different sites on different tabs and could reopen the same tabs every time I reopened my browser. Even if my computer shut down on its own. The next thing I did was download and install Alexas website ranking and the Google Pagerank toolbars.

Alexa is one of the best-known site ranking services and they have a straightforward and easy to use toolbar. On installation, it displays the ranking websites you visit using a graph of the daily traffic trends and a numeric ranking. The really helpful quality for me was the ranking shown next to each of the search results. A bar displayed next to each search result displays the overall ranking of a particular website.

The Pagerank toolbar displays a score between zero and ten for each website, calculated using a variety of aspects like the traffic, high ranking sites that link to it, how long the website has been around for and the frequency of new content updates. Unlike Alexa, which awards a unique daily rating, several websites can achieve the same Pagerank, with ten being the best score attainable.

The aim is to use the most appropriate keywords, like cars for sale, and locate sites that are rank well with in toolbars. I give Alexa priority as it shows me websites with frequent daily traffic and hence is a good indicator of car websites and classifieds that have fresh ads every day. I soon discovered that sites on the second and even third page often had a larger number and variety of ads for cars on sale. I got to explore new and far more useful sites and soon had a large resource for different cars and their prices. Finding a better deal became a whole lot easier.

The use of these tools is not restricted to the search for great deals on cars alone. It can be used practically for all the things you search for on the internet. Its simple and once you get past installing and getting acquainted with these utilities you wont want to search the web in any other way. - 21393
