A Young Racer Jumps to the Bigs
Bobby LaPonte is admittedly just a kid. He is six years young, an only child, and resides with his family in Johns Creek, Ga. .
Although Bobby has giant aspirations. While youthful in age, he is completely set on his fantasy to someday compete in NASCAR's large leagues, the Sprint Cup Series.
Bobby's goals are so huge, actually, that he often thinks about racing with the big guys. According to his folks, Larry and Nancy, he even mimicks the sound of NASCAR cars in bed.
Larry thinks that his boy gave ascend to his love of racing while still inside his mother.
"I raced the amateur track course circuit for 10 years," he insisted. "When my wife was expectant with Bobby, she would always come to watch me compete and we suppose that's when Bobby started his love of racing."
Much like Jeff Gordon and his daughter Ella, the LaPontes maintain pictures of jovial Bobby climbing in and out of his dad's auto when he was only a toddler.
Bobby might drive every day if he may, and he gets that chance with the long race year, from March until November, in the south. He and his dad compete each Saturday and Sunday, frequently traveling to other states, including Alabama, North Carolina, and Tennessee, to participate in their regional races.
This past July, Bobby took park in his first national championship event. He won his semifinal heat race.
Bobby is swift to notify you that he drives in quarter midgets, a smaller variety of the USAC Midget Sprint autos that Cup racers such as NASCAR's championship point president Tony Stewart started his career driving.
