Many 2010 Jeep Models Get Over 20 MPG
I remember when I first got my Jeep, other Jeep drivers would sometimes honk at me and wave. I always wondered what the heck was going on. Well, apparently owning a Jeep is like being in a huge club. It does not seem to happen anymore much, but it was really strange.
Some people could careless if they are in the club, they like the versatility of these American classics. They became a big part of the military during WWII and became a huge favorite of the G.I.s when they came home. 70 years later, Chrysler is still pumping the Jeep brand and they are popular as ever. Here is a look at the 2010 line-up:
The 2010 Jeep Commander
There are two different engine options for 2010: the 6 cylinder gets 15/20 and the eight cylinder is rated at 13/19 and that includes a system that shuts down 4 cylinders when it can to get you better gas mileage ratings.
Chrysler's 2010 Jeep Compass
All Jeep Compass models come with a 4 cylinder engine. The 5 speed MT version has an EPA rating of 23 city and 28 on the highway. The 5 speed automatic gets 21 in the city and 25 on the highway.
Chrysler's 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee
The 6 cylinder automatic model is rated at 16/21. There are two V8 option on the Grand Cherokee: one has MDS that shuts down 4 cylinders when you don't need them to get you 13/19 and the big HEMI version that gets you a not so great 11/16.
Chrysler's 2010 Jeep Liberty
The JeepLiberty has one engine option that gets 16/22.
2010 Jeep Patriot
3 engine modes: 5 speed manual gets 23/28; Automatic comes in at 21/25 and the smaller 2L engine gets 23/27.
The 2010 Chrysler Jeep Wrangler
This Jeep comes in a 6 cylinder only. Whether you get the automatic or standard transmission, the EPA rates this vehicles at 15/19.
Chrysler's 2010 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
This better equipped Wrangler has a V6 and comes with a 15/20 rating whether you get the automatic or manual transmission.
Any ideas for getting more efficient gas mileage for your Jeep:
a) Drive in 2 wheel drive as much as possible. Driving in 4 wheel drive when you don't have too will kill your mileage rating.
b) Less cylinders is usually much better on fuel. Choose the smaller option, if you can, to be most efficient.
c) Your air conditioning can absolutely kill your gas mileage. You may not like it, but roll down the windows if you can. Your pocket book will thank you.
Listen, Jeeps are cool and fun to drive, but they can have a bit of a rough rid and are really not that great in the fuel efficiency department. If you are looking for massive gas mileage you may want to consider a hybrid or maybe even a sedan. Keep your Jeep as a second car. - 21393
