Installing A Transportable Car Air Conditioner

By Andre Hansen

You are now the owner of your first portable auto air conditioner and may not be sure how to install it. Follow these simple tenets and you'll enjoy hours of carefree use.

Remove the unit from the packaging it came in. Find the factory taped up areas and remove these tapes as they only keep dust from entering the new cooler. The unit is now ready for filling.

Unscrew the cap on the water tank and wash the unit well with clean water. This will remove the plastic smell that might be present. Don't use any chemicals to wash the cooler with, just water.

Fill the water tank up to the mark indicating the maximum level. Screw the cap on firmly to stop leaks. Your cooler is now ready to function and only need an electrical connection. Be terribly careful not to connect the cooler to your house mains, as the higher voltage will cause the motor to burn out.

The air conditioner needs a twelve-volt connection and your vehicle battery delivers that charge thru the Marlboro lighter socket. Plug the cooler into the socket using the special adapter supplied with your kit. The fan should start blowing instantly. It takes a while for water to wet the evaporation area, so give it a few minutes. Shortly you'll feel the air coming out cooled down a lot. The conditioner can now be placed in position.

Be awfully conscious of where you place the cartable car air conditioner as it may move during driving and may even fall into the pedal area of your vehicle causing major issues for the driver. Rather choose a place where you can secure the unit safely and out of the way. Use the straps to tie it down as a further safety care. - 21393
