Believe It Or Not, A Garage Floor Finish Is Necessary If You Want Your Concrete To Not Look Gross And Cracked

By Gabriella Foster

If one wants to be sure that their garage floor will be able to resist everything from grease to battery acid, they will need to use a finishing compound of some sort. This is yet another name for garage floor finishes, which will maintain a concrete garage floor, sometimes for decades. The point of those compounds is protecting the floor from all liquids that it will come in contact with as time goes by. If not for a finish of some sort applied fairly early in the life of the concrete, it will end up stained and very unattractive.

Is Epoxy Garage Floor Paint Popular?

Probably the most used compound for protecting concrete would be epoxy garage floor paint. Using an epoxy garage floor coating helps keep garage flooring from looking aged. There are, of course, many garage floor finishes on the market, but for the best protection, epoxy garage floor coatings are always the way to go for cheap, effective results.

Some Garage Floor Finishes Are Difficult To Install

Unfortunately, epoxy is one of the more difficult garage floor finishes to apply. Just mixing it is no small job, and getting it evenly brushed on larger garage floors is a definite chore. There are many tricks that professionals use to make such installs go smoothly, preventing problems from showing up in the future. Sometimes it really does make sense to consider professionals when it comes to applying a finish, especially with epoxy coatings.

Recent Garage Floor Finishes Install Easier Than Previous Ones

In comparison to recent decades, though, garage floor finishes have become easier and simpler to install for the average homeowner. Some of the more popular compounds are specifically designed with the homeowner in mind and, due to this, installations are not nearly as difficult. These newer garage floor finishes are a result of much more competition, in addition to the reduction in prices of garage floor coverings like tiles and mats which are much easier for your average homeowner to install on their own.

No Matter What, It's Still A Lot Of Work

All of that being considered, it's still not the easiest job to do. There are still time constraints, and the floor must be very clean before you even start. Etching is always a good idea before applying any concrete coating, so be sure to investigate that option as well. Some epoxy garage floor paint kits even come with etching fluid, as well as instructions on how to use it. Some of these etching fluids even clean the concrete at the same time. - 21393
