Business Auto Insurance - Buy Auto Insurance Online

By Matt Hellstrom

There is little doubt that these are hard economic times. Banks and insurance companies are the highest recipients of federal bail-out money. And the Big Three auto makers aren't far behind. These times make the need to spend wisely and frugally top on the list of most businesses, small and large alike. Things like shopping for affordable business auto insurance is of greater and greater importance.

A business that uses a fleet of vehicles generally has an ongoing relationship with a car company and insurance company. And this spring and summer of 2009, those relationships will be in a greater state of flux than at any time before in history.

As fluid as the situation must become, the existence of the Internet and the ability to get instantaneous vehicle insurance quotes online will only make things even less likely to stay the same.

With the recent scandal surrounding AIG, many businesses are wondering about the stability of their own risk management. Are the government bail-out programs going to help the business owner faced with huge bills for maintaining insurance on their fleets? Are vehicle insurance rates going to be affected by the financial and employment turmoil?

An online quote for business auto insurance isn't just a way of getting a competitive advantage for companies with fleets of vehicles. Anyone who takes a tax deduction for vehicle expenses needs to look harder when vehicle insurance renewal time comes. And the Internet is the only way to do the kind of due diligence that these hard financial times require.

As the restructuring of the Big Three moves forward - particularly for General Motors and Chrysler, less so for Ford - the product loyalty factor will become less important, meaning many new car and truck buyers will be looking at models they never considered before. For the business decision maker, particularly in the SOHO market, the loss of confidence in the business auto and subsequent insurance market will be disruptive of previous business practice. It is in assisting the business vehicle buyer with business vehicle insurance data that shopping online will prove the value. Due diligence in the business vehicle insurance decision making process is best done online.

Word from General Motors is that the company may go into Chapter 11 as of June 1st. Does this mean that you, as a small business owner, are going to have to reconsider your decades long attachment to General Motors automobiles and trucks? Will more expensive hybrid or fuel-saving features factor into the cost of insurance? Whichever decision you come to may boil down to ongoing insurance costs. The Internet is the only way to get the wide range of business auto insurance quotes that you are going to need as you do your due diligence. - 21393

DUI Lawyers in the USA

By Neal Spoton

Some states now have two statutory offenses. The first is the traditional offense, variously called driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI), driving while intoxicated/impaired (DWI) or operating while intoxicated/impaired (OWI). The second and more recent is the so-called illegal per se offense of driving with a blood-alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08% (previously 0.10%) or higher. The first offense requires proof of intoxication, although evidence of BAC is admissible as rebuttably presumptive evidence of that intoxication; the second requires only proof of BAC at the time of being in physical control of a motor vehicle. An accused may be convicted of both offenses, but may only be punished for one.

It is also a criminal offense in all states to drive a vehicle while under the influence of drugs DUID, or under the combined influence of alcohol and drugs; the drugs themselves need not be illegal, but can be prescription or even over-the-counter. In some states, the effects of some herbal remedies (such as Kava Kava extract) fall into this category. This offense requires evidence of impairment as a result of the drugs or drugs and alcohol, although some states have passed laws making driving with the mere presence of certain drugs a criminal offense.

Some states hand out a "lesser" charge of driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.05%. Then, other states they limit this offense to drivers under the age of 21. All of the states in the U.S. have zero tolerance laws. What that means is that the license of anyone under 21 driving with a BAC of .01% or higher (.02% in some states) will be suspended. The blood-alcohol limit for commercial drivers is 0.04%. Commercial drivers are also subject to stricter punishments for exceeding the blood-alcohol limit.

Aircraft pilots or commercial bus drivers might not fly or drive their vehicles less than 8 hours after consuming alcohol, while under the impairing influence of alcohol or some other drug, or while showing a blood alcohol concentration equal to or greater than 0.04 grams per decilitre of blood. Usually, no one checks, but that's another story.

The various versions of "driving under the influence" generally amount to a misdemeanor punishable by up to 1 year in jail. However, the offense could be elevated to a felony, punishable by a longer stretch in state prison if the incident caused serious bodily injury where its called a felony DUI, death (vehicular manslaughter or vehicular homicide -- my uncle caught one of these for a year), or extensive property damage (a state specified dollar amount) or if the defendant has a designated number of prior DUI convictions within a given time period (commonly, 3 prior convictions within 7 years). However, California, which is being followed by a growing number of the states, now charges 2nd-degree murder where the legal state of mind of malice exists"that is, where the defendant exhibited a reckless indifference to the lives of others. Wow, that could get you life! - 21393

The Reasons Behind The History of Car Insurance

By Marcus Worthon

If there is one insurance policy that is one everybody's lips these days, then its got to be car insurance! Never in the history of insurance has one single policy been so widely accepted, used, abused and talked about. What is it that made car insurance spring up from nowhere and become the most popular policy in the world today? Where did it all start? What were the circumstances that forced policy makers to make it mandatory for car owners to get car insurance done? In this write up, we tty and explore the answers to all these questions.

Have you ever wondered where did it all begin? In this write up, we try and explore some of the reasons and incidents which led to the foundation of car insurance policies and laws relating to them. The earliest hints of vehicular insurance com from ancient China, when the west was opening up to this far land.

Most of the cargo that was shipped in these cargo ships belonged to wealthy traders of England and it is the clan of these traders only who rolled out insurance policies to safeguard their ships against potential maritime dangers.

Policy makers in the US were strictly bent towards the idea that if you own a vehicle and drive it on public roads, you ought to have car insurance in order to prevent damage to any third parties. It was this thought process that made the ownership of car insurance mandatory in the US and in the rest of the world as well.

Policy makers from all over the world (especially those from the US) were bent on the fact that owning a vehicle and driving it on public property (roads are, by law, property of the public) is not a right, but a luxury and therefore, it became all the more important for car owners to get their vehicles insured. Car insurance was also deemed elementary to safeguard the interests of third parties who might get incur losses during an accident on the road.

Although, the first law making making car insurance mandatory for car owners in the US came as late as 1927, a lot had been done in this field. Policies pertaining to vehicular insurance came into being in the early 18th century and it was in 1898, that Dr. Truman J Martin rolled out the first car insurance policy that covered liabilities as well. This was not the first such policy in the world, though. In 1895, a British insurance company had done the same. With the number of cars in the world rising at a staggering rate, the number of road accidents has also increased manifold and laws pertaining to making car policies have been accepted all over the world with arms wide open. - 21393

Learning The Fundamentals Of A Manual Transmission

By Bj Jamison

Most of us drive vehicles with automatic transmissions. They're more convenient for daily commuting and they're more prevalent; automakers equip the majority of their fleets with them. Having said that, cars with manual transmissions are generally more fun to drive, especially on highways and roads uncongested with traffic. The magic is in the control given to the driver. In effect, the motorist chooses which gears to hit and when to hit them, allowing him or her to maximize engine performance.

Even though manual trannies are becoming rarer each year, they continue to be the main ingredient in performance vehicles. In this article, we'll take a quick tour through manual transmissions. I'll describe the basics regarding how they work, including how moving the shift knob through the gears translates into drive power to the wheels.

Keeping Below The Redline

Your vehicle's engine has limits; it's generally referred to as the "redline." When you put pressure on the gas pedal, you'll hear the engine grow louder as the RPMs climb. The redline is the point past which your engine becomes in danger of failing - or blowing apart under the stress.

Most engines enjoy their peak performance at approximately 5,500 RPMs. The trick is to come as close as possible to that level without crossing it. That's what a manual transmission does. It lets the driver set the gear ratios that allow the engine to operate within its optimal RPM range without exceeding the redline.

Clutch And Gears

In a manual 5-speed or 6-speed, the driver controls the gear ratios through the clutch, a component that connects the engine with the transmission. When the clutch pedal is pushed down, the connection is severed. When the clutch pedal is released, the connection is reestablished. When connected, engine powers the revolutions of the output shaft which in turn powers the layshaft. The teeth of the gears interlock so that the spinning of the gears coincide with the spinning of the engine.

How The Shift Knob Contributes To Gear Selection

From a top-down perspective, the positions of the shift knob look similar to an "H" formation. When you move the knob into a particular position, it powers a gear selector fork. That fork powers a collar within the tranny. The collar is outfitted with dog teeth that fit into the grooves of the 1st through 5th (or 6th) gears. Depending upon the position into which you move the shift knob, the corresponding gear will be engaged.

A car's manual transmission follows a beautifully graceful design. That is not to suggest its design is simplistic. On the contrary, like a Swiss watch, the gears, dog teeth, and other components adhere to a well-honed precision. For car aficionados, that level of precision translates into irreplaceable engine performance. - 21393
