Getting A Custom Number Plate For Your Motorcycle

By Ric Preston

Getting a nice non-standard bike plate for your motorcycle is one of the most popular modification amongst those of us who like to stand out from the crowd.

It doesn't matter if you are building a bike for use on the public highways or you're trying to create a show winning vehicle you'll want to get yourself a number plate that enhances the style of your bike.

If you live in the UK them you'll know that it never used to be very difficult to find someone who could make up a plate to exact specifications no matter what design you wanted.

Fortunately there are companies who can send you a home plate kit which gives you the ability to make your own. They will send you a lettering transfer and blank plate so that you can complete the job yourself by simply applying the lettering.

The reason its now so much more difficult to find someone who will do the dirty work for you in regards to number plate manufacturer is that it is now illegal to supply number plates which have the potential to be used on the public highway that don't meet the specifications set out by the DVLA.

UK companies selling plates for road use need to meet the standards or they face the possibility of being prosecuted. These legal plates are obviously nice and easy to read by the police and other road users so its not hard to understand why we are required to follow these rules.

If you still want to get a custom plate but don't fancy making it yourself at home then you need to find a plate maker who doesn't mind taking the risks with the law, if you're lucky you'll have some biker friends who can point you in the right direction. Just remember that if you get caught with your dodgy plates you could face a slap on the wrist if you are lucky or a fine and penalty points if you are not. - 21393

Information About The Water Fuel Cell Kit

By Alexis Jameson

With today's economy and the outrageous prices that are charged for a single gallon of gas it is no wonder that people are looking for alternative methods of fueling their cars. By purchasing and installing a water fuel cell kit you will not only be helping the environment, but you will also be saving yourself a lot of money.

With these kits people no longer have to struggle with the gas prices and the fumes emitted from your car will be better for the environment. The water fuel cell kit enables your car to run of the hydrogen and oxygen in water instead of the same things that they get from gasoline.

The kit has been shown to be safe and effective and has saved many people hundreds of dollars in gasoline money. It can be easily installed and you can change your car back to straight gasoline power in a matter of minutes.

Benefits of the water fuel cell kit

This awesome kit has the ability to change the way we make ends meet. All the money that you have been paying for gasoline can go for other important things that your family might need. The benefits are simply astounding.

More miles per tank: With the water fuel cell kit you can drive a lot further on each tank of gas. Statistics say that these kits will amp your mileage up to twice what you get now.

Cleaner running: With the water fuel cell kit there will not be a need to get your fuel filter changed as often. That is a benefit for anyone who has ever had problems with dirty gasoline clogging up the works.

Good for the environment: Cleaner running engines mean a cleaner environment. In a time when our skies are being polluted with the toxic emissions it is a big help when anyone does something to help.

Tax credit: You can get a tax credit each year on your return by simply having this kit installed on your car. It is the government's way of paying you back for helping our planet.

Easy installation: This mechanism is easier to install than almost anything else you can add to your car. The entire process will only take a couple hours.

Our world is in a financial and an environmental crisis. The situation is not good as many people are driving vehicles that are releasing toxic chemicals into the air and gas prices are making it hard just to get to work. By installing the water fuel cell kit you can play your own part in helping the planet and holding onto your money. - 21393

Rancho Shock Reviews: RS5000, RS9000XL, RSX

By Steffen Jameson

Rancho shocks are popular upgrades and there are several choices available so it's pretty common to hear customers ask about the difference between the Rancho RS 5000, RS9000XL and RSX shocks. They're all reputable products, yet each is built for different uses and driving experiences. The Rancho RS line of shocks are geared toward the Jeep, truck, and SUV markets especially if the vehicle will be used in off-road conditions.

The entry-level is the Rancho RS5000 shock absorber. The RS5000 is a general-purpose shock. It is most often installed as a factory replacement for vehicles with worn out shocks or upgraded suspensions. It's also recommended for the budget-minded consumer. The RS5000 was engineered for use ranging from street to mild off-road. The result of this is a ride quality that's often bumpier than what the factory shocks provided because firm shocks are ideal for off-road driving and this comes at the sacrifice of some street comfort.

The Rancho RSX shock is an upgrade from the RS5000. The RSX is unique in that it incorporates an automatic "impact-sensing" reflex valve. This valve automatically opens and closes depending on how quickly or slowly the piston is forced in or out. This provides a broader range of comfort and control across the driving spectrum from street to aggressive off-road.

The best feature of the RSX is that each shock is specifically engineered for the vehicle upon which it will be installed. This provides optimal performance in conjunction with the vehicle's weight. Unfortunately, there is a downside of the RSX shock -- it's not available for heavy-duty (HD) and super-duty (SD) trucks and full-size SUVs. Does this mean that the RSX can't handle off-road use? Absolutely not, it is very capable off-road. It just can't handle the excess weight of certain full-size vehicles. Perhaps Rancho will address this in the future.

An upgrade from both the RS5000 and RSX is the RS9000XL. The RS9000XL has a manual operated valve system. This gives the driver 100% control of the firmness of the shock piston movement. This provides the broadest range of comfort and driving control ranging from street to extreme off-road. Ride quality can be set soft for highway driving, medium for city, and firm for off-road and towing.

RS9000XL have nine possible settings so a quality ride can be had by even the pickiest drivers (or their passengers). In addition to manual tuning, there is an auxiliary wireless myRIDE remote control unit that allows the shocks to be adjusted at the touch of a button while the vehicle is parked or moving. RS9000XL shocks were designed with modern-day, full-size trucks in mind. In addition to the typical 2-3/8" and 2-1/8" body diameters found on most shocks, the RS9000XL is also available with a 2-3/4" body for select full-size applications.

When selecting the best Rancho shocks for your needs, you'll have to consider your budget and what kind of driving they'll be used for. As expected, RS5000 cost the least, RSX cost approximately 40-50% more, and RS9000XL cost approximately 40-50% more than that. If you're looking to save money or merely replace your old, worn out shocks, the RS5000's will work adequately. If you're still on a budget, but want a ride superior to what an RS5000 offers, then the RSX is recommended. If budget is not an issue, or if you want the best shock available without getting into the "hard-core" off-road shocks, then I recommend the RS9000XL (and the myRIDE wireless remote)! - 21393

How GPS Works

By Matt Meeano

Since Man first fashioned tools to help him hunt, he has always tried to improve the technology that assists him in living on this sometimes unforgiving planet. Over the centuries these tools have developed and become more efficient and effective and progressively have become more and more high tech. GPS, or Global Positioning System, is one of these advances in technology.

It seems every other person has a GPS device of some sort. And why not? GPS tracking devices allow people to keep track of their loved ones and their vehicles and allow them to keep from getting lost on their out of town trips. While it is nice to admire GPS for the technological marvel it is, one should be informed of what GPS is and how it works.

The way GPS works is a relatively simple concept when broken down completely. Strategically placed satellites that are orbiting the Earth, relay a signal searching for any GPS receiver on the surface of the Earth. The signal is received by the GPS unit and then decoded. The unit and the satellite then communicate with each other and the satellite then transmits the coordinates to the GPS unit. This transfer of data allows anyone looking at the GPS screen to see where they are currently located.

During the 1970's and 1980's the satellites for GPS were deployed for the United States military to use in navigation for their units on land and at sea. It wasn't until the '90s that GPS was allowed to be used for commercial use. Since that time, GPS has rapidly wormed its way into the marketplace and into our lives. It is so widespread and commonly used that a good unit can be found inexpensively.

Since the price is inexpensive, this means that GPS is affordable for pretty much every socio-economic class of people. Given the availability and low cost, GPS units are pretty much found in every vehicle on the road. This is to be expected because these units help you keep from getting lost and save you peace of mind.

If you purchase a car and it has a GPS option, you are well served to purchase it as it will not only help you, it will increase the vehicles resale. If your vehicle did not come equipped with a GPS as an option, you will want to find one that fits your budget and individual preferences.

The last thirty years, GPS has gone from military hardware to an item on our dashboards that we cannot live without. What a journey, huh? - 21393

Plug-in Hybrid Cars vs Hybrid Cars

By Colin Jones

Hybrid cars are on everyone's lips these days. Twenty, forty, or fifty dollars for a tank of gas? Who really wants to pay that sort of money? But, frustrated, the gas customer sighs, but pays up. However, hybrid vehicles are being richly applauded for the small amount of fuel they need to operate, and they are being driven off the lots of car dealerships each and everyday in ever increasing numbers.

However, what about a plug-in hybrid? Most drivers have heard that these cars are great as well. So, a person might be asking him or herself, what exactly a plug-in hybrid is? How they work, and what the difference between a plug-in hybrid and a regular hybrid is?

Plug-in hybrid cars are able to run solely on batteries, but they can also run on gas also. These sorts of hybrid cars have some of the features of hybrid vehicles. They are also very similar to all-electric vehicles.

Plug-in hybrid cars must be charged externally by plugging them into an electrical power source. The combustion engine of plug-in hybrid vehicles is engaged only as a back up. These cars can run only on batteries if so desired, but it is to be expected that these kinds of hybrid cars be plugged in every day.

Hybrid cars travel just as many miles as a conventional car. Designed to go the extra mile where fuel-mileage is concerned, hybrids can be driven on the motorway, in cities, or wherever else a person needs to go.

On the other hand, plug-in hybrids are designed to handle commuter-length distances, meaning between twenty and sixty miles between destinations. This way, the plug-in hybrid does not have to use its back up combustion engine, but plug-in hybrids can go further using fuel too.

Hybrids help to minimize pollution, but they still pollute the atmosphere. Compared with plug-in hybrids, hybrid cars still have a long way to go as far as pollution is concerned. Since plug-in hybrid cars can run solely on their battery power, they don't have to emit waste fuel emissions at all.

Plug-in hybrids actually do fight against greenhouse gas emissions and plug-in hybrids use virtually no oil imported or not. Studies have shown that electric hybrids emit at least 67% less greenhouse gases compared to gasoline cars. Since the product used to power plug-in hybrids is renewable, the difference in greenhouse gas emissions may be even greater than the study showed.

There you have it - the main differences between plug-in hybrids and regular hybrid cars. It could make a big difference, but you would be surprised at how little it actually matters at the moment, but tht's only because plug-in hybrids are not being marketed to consumers yet! But this article should make you enthusiastic about the wonderful plug-in hybrid car, which will be featuring soon on a dealership near you.

And it's going to be a spectacular debut too, since people already like the current hybrid car models, but they haven't seen anything yet until they see the new plug-in hybrid cars. However, for now, maybe we should just be happy with what we already have, because who knows? Before plug-in hybrid cars are brought out onto the forecourts, something even better might be introduced onto the market. - 21393
