Tips To Lower Your Motor Vehicle Insurance Premiums

By Graham McKenzie

There are lots of little things you can do to lower you car insurance payments. Of course, searching for the best company is a part of it, but there are always discounts that you can search for. Be sure to ask your insurance agent about all of these discounts before you set up an agreement.

One of the easiest ways to lower your monthly bills is by paying a higher deductible. The deductible is the amount you pay if an accident is your fault, and you pay this once for each accident you are in. By paying a higher deductible you will have to fork out more money at the time of the accident, but you save on your monthly bills.

The next deduction is from using the same insurance company. If you use the same company to cover all of your cars, your home, and possible any health or life insurance you get, you can expect to get more discounts. The more you have attached to your account, the more you save.

There are many simple ways drivers can save money on their car insurance. First, start by keeping your car in the garage so as to further prevent it from being stolen. Next, check into your car's safety features like anti-lock brakes and airbags. Insurance companies do have special discounts for cars that have these features since they reduce the damage in a car accident.

A defensive-driving course is designed to prepare you for accident situations. It makes you more aware of your surroundings so you can react quickly. Not only may this course help save your life or the lives of others, it can reduce your insurance bill by 10%. This is a great way to discount the prices of young drivers, which are more likely to get into an accident.

Remember that your premium costs are also affected by the number of accidents you have. So, be careful that the person who drives your car is a trained driver so that there is a minimum chance of accidents. You must also be very careful while on road so that the chances of getting in an accident gets reduced considerably.

People above the age of 55 can get a membership of AARP and benefit discounts on their monthly bills. You may also decide to make advance payments for a year and avail good discount, however this can be feasible only if have sufficient capital with you.

When accessing your premiums the insurance agent depends on factors like your car, you're driving record, and your age. In some cases it is impossible to change these factors, but you might be able to if you are in the right position. Try getting a car that costs less to repair, and it will result in you paying lower premiums. You can also try getting car insurance put under your spouse's name instead if they have a cleaner record. The key to getting low premiums is making you less of a liability to the insurance company so that they are more likely to make money. - 21393

The Differences of a Body Lift and Suspension Lift

By Jeff Lewiston

A body lift or a suspension lift are essentially two ways to lift your Jeep, truck, or SUV. Both methods have their pros and cons that are typically focused on price, performance, and ease of installation, but let me explain the difference between the two.

A suspension lift raises the vehicle's frame (chassis) away from the ground. This is accomplished with taller springs, lift blocks, spring spacers, lowering the differential, turning up the torsion bars, or any combination thereof.

A body lift raises the vehicle by lifting the body away from the frame with spacers. This keeps the frame at its existing distance from the ground.

A suspension lift is recommended for anyone planning to spend a lot of time off-road. A body lift is recommended for anyone that wants to make their vehicle look lifted with no true intentions of going off-road. This doesn't mean that a body lifted vehicle can't go off-road. It just won't perform as well as a suspension lifted vehicle because it hasn't gained any ground clearance.

Suspension lifts typically range between 2-inches to 6-inches (though there are some companies that produce "extreme" kits in excess of this), while body lifts range between 1-inch to 3-inches.

A suspension lift is more complicated than a body lift because it alters all of the suspension components that give the vehicle its factory ride characteristics. Installing springs that generate lift will have a harsher ride quality than with soft factory springs. Longer shock absorbers will be needed. The vehicle will also have a higher center of gravity because the entire weight of the vehicle (everything except the axles) will now be raised further from the ground. In some cases, the transfer case will need to be lowered and the rear differential repositioned to minimize driveline vibrations as the Jeep Wrangler is notorious for having a short rear driveline that isn't readily accepting to increased u-joint angles.

Pros: Increases ground clearance, increased approach and departure angles, allows fitment of larger tires.

Cons: Expensive, longer installation time, increased driveline angles (more susceptible to vibrations), brake lines need to be re-routed or lengthened, longer shocks needed, increased center of gravity.

A body lift is relatively simple in that it primarily consists of a set of spacers that are inserted at the mounting points between the frame and body of the vehicle. This leaves all the heavy parts of the vehicle (frame, engine, transmission, transfer case, etc) at their factory locations so the vehicle's center of gravity (though increased) will not be increased as much as a suspension lift.

Pros: Inexpensive, can be installed quickly with basic hand tools, allows fitment of taller tires, simpler (all parts necessary come in a small box).

Cons: Appearance (there will be a noticeable gap between the body tub and the frame), additional leverage is placed on the mounting points, ground clearance is not raised.

Ultimately, the only benefit of a body lift is that it allows for the installation of larger tires. On the other hand, a suspension lift is designed for improved performance off-road (and conveniently allows the installation of larger tires). If cost is a factor and you're on a budget but want to make your Jeep, truck, or SUV look like an aggressive off-roader with no real intentions of ever going off-road, then a body lift would be adequate for you. However, if cost isn't a factor and you're looking to make your Jeep, truck, or SUV more off-road capable and trail ready, then a suspension lift should be your first choice. - 21393

Thinking About Using Self-Adhesive Garage Floor Tile?

By Christine Tiesto

Every major brand of garage floor tile is one of two types: interlocking, or peel and stick (self adhesive). This confuses some people since resellers and manufacturers of garage floor tiles aren't always clear on the differences. We'll take a quick look at the peel and stick type tile for garage floors, so that you can decide if it will be right for you.

How Hard Is It To Install Peel And Stick Garage Floor Tile?

Peel and stick garage floor tiles are simple, if not easy, to install. You simply stick them to your concrete garage floor after peeling their backings off. Before you start, though, you have to clean the floor. If you don't, your nice new tiles will end up sticking to dust or dirt instead of concrete. Take note that, besides an epoxy garage floor coating, there is no other flooring solution that takes more cleaning. On big advantage on epoxy garage floor coatings is the ability to stop and resume the install later, just so long as the floor is re-cleaned before you start again. When it comes to cleaning and installing, be sure to read the directions for your particular tiles.

Peel And Stick Tile Is Not Terribly Expensive, But It Can Be Hard To Find

Although there are many places that you can buy this garage floor covering, peel and stick tile seems to be a bit sparse when it comes to the more traditional places to purchase flooring or home improvement supplies, such as hardware stores. They exist, but they can sometimes be hard to find, and selection may be limited. As such, prices are all over the place, and it seems there's not particular size of garage that a set will cover. I've found everything from 40 square foot to 66 square foot, and prices ranging from $112 to well over $300. Be careful, before you buy, that your kit will include enough garage floor tile to at least cover your garage.

Durability Of Peel And Stick Garage Floor Tile

Of all of the various garage floor coverings, tile is probably the most durable. Because they stick to the concrete, these tiles have an extra bid of rigidity that other coverings lack. Also, since they do not move about, they don't become damaged by friction as quickly as garage floor mats. Keep in mind, though, that much of the durability of garage floor tiles will depend on what they are made of, so consider what you plan to do in your garage before choosing.

Why Peel And Stick Garage Floor Tiles May Not Be Your Best Option

Peel and stick tiles are immobile. I only bring this up because snap together tiles, as well as a garage floor mat, can be moved around when needed. Because of this, if you are only intending on covering a portion of your floor, I would definitely suggest going the route of something that you can move. The final price will likely be less, and you may as well get all of the features that you can. Also, when you're ready to cover your entire garage floor, you'll already have a mat to protect your nice new garage flooring! - 21393

Buying A Used Car: Why To Remove Truck Stickers

By Frank Sanders

Sometimes we go through phases where we think putting stickers on our vehicles is cool, and a great way to express some personality. However, once they start to fade, crack, or peel, we get tired of them. Peeling them off is not as easy as placing them was, and can leave unsightly remnants that devalue the vehicle. Here are some easy ways to remove truck stickers without requiring a new bumper.

If you are fortunate enough, you can simply unpeel the sticker after you spray something that greases the glue holding the sticker. There are a number of assorted products that can do this pretty easily, such as WD-40, cooking spray, and similar things. Be cautious, and if it does not look as if it will peel, do not attempt to push the issue, simply move on to the next choice.

Use a method that removes old wallpaper. Use a washrag or old towel and immerse it in hot soapy water for a few moments. Press the rag to the decal for no less than thirty seconds, and ensure that the entire sticker receives a decent drenching. It should then just peel away if the water is sufficiently hot.

Use a plastic paint scraper (or a plastic spatula) to work an end loose, and then bring out a blow dryer to heat up the glue holding the sticker on. Keep applying the heat while you peel, and it should come off fairly easily. If it starts resisting, or the heat doesn't seem to do the trick, try another suggestion.

Contrary to what some people will tell you, do not try to use a sharp object to just scrape off the bumper sticker from your truck. Not only will you risk cutting yourself, you could scratch the bumper, tailgate, window, or wherever the sticker is attached beyond a simple repair. Use something plastic, like a plastic spatula, or wrap the sharp object in duct tape or something similar to protect your truck.

In some cases, a lint-free cloth and a bit of rubbing alcohol will remove the truck sticker very nicely. Dip the cloth in the rubbing alcohol, then rub it gently down the entire length of the bumper sticker. The alcohol helps get rid of the glue holding the sticker in place. Make sure it is a gentle cloth, or it could leave more lint than you want to have to deal with.

After getting rid of all of the stickers, take the truck to a car wash or similar place and give it a good cleaning. Use a buffer to get rid of any leftover sticky paper, and any lint. Window cleaner, or polishing compound, can be used to shine up the area as well. Overall, the truck will look much better, and there should be little or no lasting marks where the sticker was at.

This very easy way to add some value to your truck is important, and can be a great way to get it looking like a different vehicle altogether. Whether you are hoping to sell the truck, bought it with stickers that you did not care for, or are just hoping to make it look more mature, getting rid of stickers is a very simple option that does not take a lot of time, money, or energy to complete in most cases. - 21393
